As with the first Friday of each month, the BLS employment statistics were released today. Attached is our ‘cheat sheet’ for your use and information. The national unemployment rate decreased from 5.3% to 5.1% and the Veteran unemployment numbers decreased from 4.7% to 4.2%. Thanks to all of you who are working directly or indirectly, to ensure our Veterans have meaningful employment.

A new study from Mathematica Policy Research sheds light on the characteristics of veterans who visit AJCs, the assistance they receive, and how AJCs ensure veterans are given priority of service. The findings are based on data from 28 sites across the country, randomly selected for Mathematica's WIA Adult and Dislocated Worker Programs Gold Standard Evaluation. The study also includes an in-depth analysis of job services provided to veterans in Pennsylvania and Texas.

The Gold Card Initiative is a joint venture between the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS). The initiative is to ensure returning service members and all Post-9/11 era Veterans are entitled case management, intensive services, and up to 6-months of follow-up.
